This is an exciting time to join St Helens Carers Centre, as we continue to develop and deliver high-quality services that support unpaid carers of all ages across the borough. We are a Centre of Excellence, currently supporting over 16,000 Adult Carers, 394 Young Adult Carers and more than 930 Young Carers.
As a service we provide a wide range of support, including Carers Assessments, wellbeing support, groups, training, respite opportunities, information, advice and advocacy. We deliver accessible, person-centred support through face-to-face and telephone services, ensuring Carers can access help in the way that best suits their needs.
The successful postholder will join a small team of Carer Admin Officers, providing administrative support. A key responsibility will be coordinating the Carers Emergency Card scheme, including processing applications, maintaining accurate records, updating contingency plans, issuing cards, and responding to enquiries. The role is essential in ensuring Carers have effective emergency plans in place, giving reassurance that those they care for will be supported if an emergency occurs.

Job Description
A key part of the Carer Admin Officer role is coordinating and managing the Carers Emergency Card scheme, which provides Carers with reassurance that emergency arrangements are in place for the person they care for if they are suddenly unable to fulfil their caring responsibilities due to an accident, or another unforeseen situation.
The postholder will be responsible for processing applications, gathering and verifying information, developing and maintaining contingency plans, issuing emergency cards, updating records, and responding to enquiries from Carers and partner agencies. They will ensure all information is accurate, up to date, and recorded appropriately on internal systems so that emergency support arrangements can be accessed quickly when needed.
The role requires a high level of organisation, attention to detail, and sensitivity, as the postholder will often be discussing personal circumstances with Carers and helping them plan for potentially stressful situations. By ensuring Carers have robust emergency plans in place, the Carer Admin Officer plays a vital role in reducing anxiety, promoting peace of mind, and helping Carers feel confident that their cared-for person will continue to be safe and supported in the event of an emergency.
Carer Emergency Card Duties:
• To process applications and verify information provided by Carers, updating and maintaining emergency contingency plans.
• Verify information provided by Carers to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
• Assess applications for completeness and follow up on any missing information with Carers.
• Gather and record emergency contact information and ensure appropriate consent has been obtained.
• Issue Carers Emergency Cards and associated resources in line with the scheme procedures.
• Maintain accurate, confidential and GDPR complaint records on internal databases and systems.
• Update database records following new applications, reviews, amendments or card renewals.
• Respond to enquiries from Carers, families and partner agencies.
• Notify relevant agencies of updates where required and ensure information is communicated appropriately.
• Liaise with Carers to review and update emergency contacts.
• Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
• Monitor renewals and updates to ensure emergency plans remain current.
• Work collaboratively with our Assessment-Review Wellbeing Teams to ensure Carers receive a seamless service.

Essential Requirements
1. EXPERIENCE of at least 12 months in front of house role dealing with the public in a busy customer care environment.
2. EXPERIENCE of using Microsoft Word and Excel with excellent data entry skills at intermediate to advanced levels.
3. EXPERIENCE of using the internet and email systems at an intermediate level.
4. EXPERIENCE of cash handling in a paid position.
5. KNOWLDEGE and a good understanding of the needs of unpaid Carers.
6. EDUCATED to a good standard with a good GCSE or equivalent in English.
7. SKILLS & ABILITY work sensitively with a vulnerable client group both face to face and over the telephone.
8. SKILL & ABILITY to have a warm, welcoming, and empathetic disposition.
9. SKILL & ABILITY to work under pressure with changing demands and workloads.
10. SKILL & ABILITY to maintain confidential records and a clear understanding of confidentiality.
11. SKILL & ABILITY to undertake some evening week and very rarely weekend work.
12. SKILL & ABILITY to work on your own initiative whilst also working in a supportive manner within a team.
Desirable Requirements
1. EXPERIENCE of working in the charity sector.
2. QUALIFICATION in administration

St Helens Carers Centre is an independent charity, established since 2001. The Management board governs the Centre; it consists of 6 Trustees, most of whom are Carers or former Carers.
Our organisation is also a network member of the National Carers Trust.
Our aim is to put preventative measures into place so that Adult, Young Adult & Young Carers are better able to cope with their caring responsibilities.
The Adult Carers Centre is located on Baldwin Street, it provides a range of support to Adult & Young Adult Carers 18 years +, the services offered include:

• Holistic Therapies to help with the Carers’ wellbeing
• Referrals into other agencies for support & signposting

• A range of specific support groups, e.g. Memory Loss, Mental Health, LGBTQ+ and Parent Carers.
• Recreational Activities and social events at our Adult Carers Club House, for example, Carers Café, quiz nights etc.
• Parent Carer Wellbeing Support – dedicated support for Parent Carers who care for a child with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND).
• Carers Membership Discount Card
• Carers Emergency Card which gives the Carer peace of mind that in the event of an emergency the person they care for will be taken care of.
• Dedicated support for newly registered Young Adult Carers and those transferring over from our Young Carers Service
The Young Carers Centre is situated opposite the St Helens Town Hall. The Centre has been specifically designed to cater for children and young people. The bright décor and the facilities make the Centre appealing to all age groups. The staff at the Centre support Young Carers aged 6 – 18 years of age.
The Young Carers Centre also provides a range of support, the services offered include:
• Young Carer Assessments/Reviews (in home, school, college or at the Young Carers Centre)
• Referrals out into other agencies for support
• Practical/Emotional Support
• Regular Age-Specific Activities (during term time & school holidays)
• Chattin 4 Action Committee – Young Carers working together to make positive changes

General Terms & Conditions
Hours: Full-Time 37 hours per week:
37 hours per week covering our core hours of Mondays to Fridays 9.00am – 4.30pm (4.00pm Fridays) with an unpaid lunch break of at least 30 minutes. The remaining hours will be worked between 8.45am and 5pm.
From time to time an employee may be required to undertake duties more than these hours. When such work is needed, reasonable effort will be made to give employees advance notice of the requirement so as to minimise any personal inconvenience that this would otherwise mean for them. In these circumstances no overtime is payable but time in lieu will be granted.
Based: Adult Carers Centre, 31-35 Baldwin Street, St Helens, WA10 2RS.
Pension: Auto Enrolled Pension scheme of which 3% is paid by St Helens Carers Centre
Holiday Entitlement:
25 days per year plus 8 bank holidays (After 5 years of service, this rises by 1 additional day per year to a max of 30 days plus bank holidays)
